Tequila Tasting Rules

TequilaTwitter.com recommends the following methods of tasting straight, unmixed, tequilas:

  • 2 oz. pour, chilled, with a splash of water
  • 1 oz. pour, below 32 degrees F.
  • 2 oz. pour over ice

Why the water or ice? Because it cuts the first factor of tequila: its heat. Not the temperature heat but the strength of the alcohol that tends to cause that warm burning sensation towards the back of your palet. Cooled, with water, one is able to enjoy the subtle flavors and aromas of a good tequila, similar to fine scotches.

About Tequila Twitter

TequilaTwitter.com began as a log of tequilas that I had tasted, so as I journeyed through fine stores such as BevMo and Hi-times, I could keep track of what I had tried and what the next experiment would be.

I never realized it would become so popular, but as the selection of fine tequilas began to increase in bars and restaurants, it was apparent that we were on the threshold of a growing industry. Great tequilas deserve quality taste-testing and we believed that if you could review a tequila in one sentence, a-la twitter format, it would ultimately benefit the consumer.
